CSTs are able to practice at their full scope of practice, and have the opportunity to engage in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and services with the goal of improving patient outcomes, and execute an optimal plan of care in a shared governance environment.

Requirements

  • License: NBSTSA or NCCT certification, or LPN license
  • Minimum education: must be a graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology program, and eligible for certification

Nice To Haves

  • Day shift, option between 5x8s, 4x10s, and 3x12s.
  • Call is on a rotating schedule with a 30 min response time required, on-site call house available.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains standards of care for the operative patient, adhering to AORN standards and recommendations.
  • Prepares the patient environment by stocking rooms and cleaning equipment as assigned.
  • Anticipates surgeon and anesthesia needs using preference cards, collecting and assembling necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment for procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper handling of supplies and equipment necessary for surgical procedures, and responds appropriately to changes in patient needs during operations.
  • Assists with patient positioning, preparation, and follows AORN guidelines for surgical hand scrubs, surgical counts, and Time Out procedures.
  • Identifies and mitigates potential and actual safety hazards, ensuring equipment is removed from the patient area and repaired as needed.
  • Adheres to universal precautions and infection control techniques, organizes tasks to meet patient care and unit needs, stays flexible to changes, and remains accountable for continuing education and policy updates.
