About The Position

The Certified Surgical Scrub Technician (CST) is a member of the surgical staff specializing in supporting and anticipating the needs of each surgeon. They must have the necessary knowledge to understand and react quickly in an operating room. Certified Scrub Tech’s are responsible for preparing, organizing, cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room. The CST is responsible for supporting and maintaining the surgical practice by upholding established policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, and safety.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience that would demonstrate a high level of proficiency and advanced understanding of healthcare operations.
  • BLS and/or ACLS required

Nice To Haves

  • Current licensure as a CST is preferred, not required
  • 1+ years of related surgical experience preferred
  • Nextech Software experience is desired

Responsibilities

  • The Surgical Technician has the responsibility to carry out duties as directed by My Houston Surgeons.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with the designated My Houston Surgeons Supervisor(s) and team.
  • Follows and always maintains patient confidentiality appropriate with HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Assists surgeons and other medical professionals in office operating room (OR), office procedure room, and clinical rooms to include applying sutures, staples, clips, or other materials; insertion, positioning, or suturing of closed-wound drainage systems; gowning and gloving; clamps. Ligates, or cauterizes blood vessels to control bleeding.
  • Prepares OR, office procedure room, and clinic rooms as needed for pending surgical procedures.
  • Participates in positioning of patients.
  • Ensures unobstructed operative field is maintained
  • Ensures all personnel in OR, office procedure room, and clinical rooms are appropriately gowned and gloved for procedure being conducted.
  • Always maintains sterile operative field.
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care before, during, and after surgery.
  • Alerts supervisor and seeks assistance when an activity or process change within the clinic changes or deviates from the current process.
  • Attends training sessions as needed to increase knowledge base and skill level.
  • Cleans and turns over the office operating room after surgical procedures
  • Ensures that stock levels for the operating room, pre-operating area, and post-anesthesia care unit, and at appropriate par and orders as needed.
  • Communicates with Purchasing Coordinator as needed.
  • Participates in cleaning and appropriate care of procedure devices.
  • Attends to inventory levels, equipment needs/repairs, and coordinates with contracted services on an as needed basis.
  • Ensures that all instruments utilized in OR are appropriately cleaned, sterilized, and available for use.
  • Properly disposes of contaminated supplies.
  • Participates in annual competency training sessions as designated by My Houston Surgeons supervisor(s)
  • Other duties as assigned by My Houston Surgeons supervisors and physicians.
  • Assists with maintaining AAAASF certification for the office OR’s
  • Assists with the facilitation of inspection of office OR equipment on an annual basis.
  • Administrative tasks to include filing, scanning, shredding, faxing, copying, mailing, data entry, etc. as needed.
