About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Fort Worth is hiring a Registered Nurse Charge for our Operating Room Circulator! Under the supervision of the OR Manager and/or Director of Perioperative Services, the Charge Nurse is to ensure that patient-flow through the Operating Room phase is accomplished in an organized and efficient manner with emphasis on providing high quality patient care. This position is responsible for coordinating daily, weekly, and monthly staffing plans consistent with ensuring effective and reliable operations within the surgical setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Currently licensed in the state of TX, RN.
  • BLS required
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in the operating room setting
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good organization habits.
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly in a fast pace and dynamic environment with strong knowledge base relative to surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient.
  • Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care.
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Uses appropriate nursing judgment in decision-making and delegation of assignments.
  • Basic knowledge of continuous quality improvement ideology.
  • Ability to utilize Electronic Heath Care Record for patient documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Dissemination of information from leadership to the OR staff and from the OR staff to department management.
  • Responsible for delegation and oversight of operational activities, including daily staffing assignments and training of staff to the care of the patient the operating room setting.
  • Acts as a primary resource and provides guidance to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
  • Ensure that physician preference cards are appropriately maintained and accurate.
  • Collaborates with Material Management, Radiology, and Sterile Process departments to ensure adequate resources are available and allocated to meet demand of the surgical schedule.
  • Collaborates with the Quality department and infection control RN to ensure the department is adhering to regulatory mandates and evidence-base practice standards.
  • Acts as a patient advocate in meeting his/her physical and psychological needs.
  • Performs patient assessment and reassessment immediately upon admission and on a regular basis in accordance with standards of care with documentation of these assessments as a basis for planning each patient's care.
  • Ensures that all nursing interventions and patients' responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated.
  • Takes emergency call and/or after hours call as assigned.
  • Understand best practices and have the ability to apply them to improve patient outcomes.
  • Integrates and coordinates care across settings and among disciplines.
  • Implements physician's orders effectively and safely in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Utilizes special precautions in the direct care and in the supervision of care provided to sedated patients.
  • Documents all records according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assists with reviewing and updating policies and procedure.
