Family Medical Leave Act Equal Employment Opportunity Equal Employment Opportunity Supplement Employee Polygraph Protection Act CHARACTERISTICS OF POSITION: Provide specialized administration support to the Police Department by managing and fulfilling open records requests. This civilian role involves collecting, reviewing, and redacting sensitive audio and data records, including, but not limited to 911 calls, radio transmissions, Body Worn Camera footage, CAD call logs, and police reports. The position ensures compliance with legal standards for public records and promotes transparency within the department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, legal administration, or public records preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of GPD body-worn camera policies and open records laws.
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws governing redaction processes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and PDF editing applications.
  • Understanding of departmental General Orders and related procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail with effective organizational skills.
  • Technical proficiency in performing accurate and complaint redactions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work collaboratively withing a team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officers, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and apply relevant policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Moderate with expected interruptions.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to adapt to future technologies as required.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • No felony, domestic violence, or moral turpitude convictions.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with audio editing and redaction tools is beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and redact 911 audio, radio transmission, and CAD call records for open records requests.
  • Review and classify records to ensure compliance with applicable laws and confidentiality standards.
  • Maintain accurate logs of requests and responses to ensure timely fulfilment and legal compliance.
  • Manage and fulfill open records and discovery requests related to body-worn camera footage and other department records.
  • Coordinate with internal divisions to gather necessary documentation and media.
  • Preserve digital evidence and maintain proper chain of custody for all redacted materials.
  • Respond to public inquiries and requests professionally and courteously.
  • Operate and maintain software tools used for redaction and audio editing.
  • Perform related administrative duties as assigned.
