About The Position

The Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center invites applications from qualified candidates to join our faculty in an open rank, full-time, 12-month non-tenure track position as an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator. Responsibilities include obtaining and maintaining clinical contracts with various healthcare facilities; working directly with MSOT and OTD students to provide high quality fieldwork education experiences in a variety of settings; promoting excellence, integrity and service in all interactions. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching, student advisement, and University and professional service. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • Clinical or post-professional Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy or related field (OTD, DrOT, DSc, EdD, ScD, PhD).
  • Three (3) years of post-licensure clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Excellent communication, conflict management and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and a vision for excellence.
  • University or clinical teaching experience in needed content areas.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Licensed and eligible to practice occupational therapy in the State of Tennessee.

Nice To Haves

  • Board certification in a clinical specialty area (ABPTS or equivalent).
  • Previous leadership or management experience in a clinical setting.
  • Record of scholarly activity (publications, presentations, funded projects).
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards relevant to DPT education and clinical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches, coordination of all fieldwork rotations, oversight of fieldwork relations and activities, oversight of fieldwork site selection and facility contracts, as well as conducting duties of scholarship and data management.
  • Obtains and maintains a sufficient number of fieldwork contracts with a variety of healthcare settings to provide adequate selection of fieldwork slots for every fieldwork course required by MSOT and OTD students.
  • Supervises, mentors, and communicates directly with students to establish high quality fieldwork and integrated curricular experience.
  • Establishes, communicates, and enforces MSOT and OTD fieldwork policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with fieldwork education and site coordinators to evaluate student performance and assigns grades for all fieldwork courses.
  • Assists with recruitment of highly qualified fieldwork supervisors.
  • Manages fiscal resources associated with the fieldwork education program, under the supervision of the OT Program Director.
  • Guides curriculum design, planning, scheduling, and outcome measures related to the fieldwork education component that promote reflective reasoning, evidence-based practice, and ethical excellence.
  • Guides strategic planning related to fieldwork education.
  • Teaches or co-teaches didactic courses related to areas of expertise.
  • Establishes and implements a personal scholarly agenda.
  • Promotes and supports faculty, staff, and fieldwork educator professional development, especially as it relates to fieldwork education.
  • Serves on assigned committees and participates in university governance.
  • Promotes departmental involvement and service within the community.
  • Supports and helps plan collaborative and inter-professional education and service activities among faculty and students within the university and local community.
