About The Position

Emerson College’s Department of Journalism seeks to hire a one-year, full-time Journalist-in-Residence in Multimedia Journalism. Based in the Journalism Department within the School of Communication, this faculty member will teach at the Boston campus. The appointment begins August 20, 2026 with a mandatory two-day orientation August 20 and 21, 2026. Emerson College is the nation’s only four-year institution dedicated exclusively to majors in communication and the arts in a liberal arts context. It is located in the dynamic, multi-cultural city of Boston in close proximity to major arts institutions, performing art venues, and research centers. The faculty member will be expected to teach courses including Foundations of Journalism, Intro to Multimedia Journalism and other cross-platform courses. The person will also support existing courses in multimedia news producing, longform multimedia and/or investigative news and Capstone. The candidate should have an online portfolio that demonstrates digital news expertise and shows creative practice in the field. This faculty member should have an innovative and creative portfolio that also considers the evolution of journalism, possibly relating to news documentary or freelance journalism. The candidate’s portfolio is expected to demonstrate an ability to prepare Emerson journalism students with fundamental skills — such as flexibility and adaptability to visual storytelling formats. For this one-year term position, the department is looking for an experienced academic and/or practitioner in daily and long-form news.

Requirements
