About The Position

Responsible for directing the successful development, implementation and growth of the oncology service line, resulting in high quality outcomes, cost effective performance and increases in volume/market share. Serves as an administrative liaison for oncology services activities, projects and programs. Works closely with executive leadership, financial planning and key medical leadership regarding technology, identifying avenues for increased revenue and reimbursement, and controlling overall cost in each area. Responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, directing and staffing of department workforce, materials, technology information and financial resources to provide quality care in all areas. Represents the health system in all department-related activities. Maintains active communication among medical staff, interdepartmental directors and staff. Collaborates and participates actively with Ambulatory leadership team and related division endeavors.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher
  • Seven (7) years of experience in progressive leadership roles in a comprehensive oncology service line business with inpatient/outpatient oncology
  • Ability to orchestrate many responsibilities simultaneously; high level of energy
  • Ability to understand the healthcare industry and its changes
  • Ability to work across functions throughout the oncology service line and medical center leadership as a whole
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
  • A business mind-set well rounded business acumen and strong organizational skills; successful in developing viable business plans and alternatives; experienced in and willingness to show support for new programs, while constructively evaluating business plans or developing such plans if/as needed
  • Extensive experience working closely with physicians and proven ability to gain trust and credibility
  • Good balance of process and results
  • Strategic thinker; able to invite and assimilate information from a variety of sources
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing, listening and presentations
  • Strong knowledge Microsoft Office Suite experience

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and reports suspected violations.
  • Creates programs and/or initiatives for attaining and maintaining high patient satisfaction scores in all outpatient clinical cost centers.
  • Effectively engages stakeholders to develop and execute service line business strategy and achieve performance objectives. In collaboration with service line physicians, inpatient oncology leadership, managers and executive leadership, develops goals, objectives and metrics for all oncology programs and services.
  • In collaboration with service line physicians and administrative leadership, establishes, implements, and maintains policies and procedures for all service line departments.
  • Works collaboratively with the Vice President of the Ambulatory Division and health system operational leaders, Oncology staff, Quality & Process Improvement Department, and Oncology and other service line physicians to create the annual quality plan.
  • Plans and implements process improvement strategies that ensure high levels of quality and patient safety.
  • Oversees LEAN initiatives and fosters involvement of all constituents in rapid improvement events.
  • Develops annual budget in conjunction with senior leadership to ensure efficiency, productivity, and sufficient financial resources to meet all goals and objectives of the service line.
  • Monitors operational budget/actual results to ensure adequate cost control and to maximize revenue.
  • In collaboration with physicians, executive leadership and key stakeholders, creates annual capital plan and makes recommendations for capital purchases.
  • Establishes strong relationships with service line medical leadership, departmental managers, health system colleagues, donors and executive leadership and ensures effective lines of communication with all constituents.
  • Partners with clinical leadership, executive leadership, and the Marketing and Public Relations Department to understand, evaluate and identify market opportunities that lead to growth and development of the service line.
  • Actively participates in physician recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Directs the analysis of key operational and financial outcomes including: ALOS, case mix, ambulatory and hospital utilization, cost per case, etc., to recognize trends, evaluate departmental status, and in concert with strategic partners, make informed business recommendations and decisions.
  • Provides leadership in coordination of service line meetings: working with service line physicians, medical directors, and administrative managers to develop agendas, ensure concise meeting minutes, and coordinate any follow up activities that support the service line’s overall strategies.
  • Works collaboratively with the Finance Department to review current and future reimbursement trends and payor contracting strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
