About The Position

Summary of Position: The Oncology Pharmacist assists with providing comprehensive care for patients with various types of cancer. The pharmacist reviews chemotherapy orders to ensure accuracy, safety and efficiency. The Pharmacist collaborates with physicians and nurses to promote desirable patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Pharm.D. required
  • Previous clinical oncology/infusion pharmacy experience required
  • Computer literacy in common office applications
  • California Registered Pharmacist license required.
  • CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • ACLS certification required or obtain within 90 days upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of PGY 1 and/or PGY2 residency or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) database or equivalent preferred; Epic experience preferred
  • Nevada Registered Pharmacist license preferred.
  • Board Certification in Oncology (BCOP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
  • Provides pharmaceutical care in collaboration with other caregivers for patients with various cancer disease.
  • Helps facilitate the efficient delivery of medication therapy within the oncology/infusion center.
  • Reviews and interprets drug orders for accuracy and safety. Evaluates efficacy, therapeutic goals and indications, contraindications/precautions, and patient's current state of health.
  • Reviews patient's medical record for drug-drug, drug-food, drug-laboratory, and drug-disease state interactions.
  • Oversees sterile compounding activities to maintain safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepares, mixes and compounds sterile medications adhering to aseptic procedures, including chemotherapy drugs and other hazardous drugs.
  • Educates patients, family, and staff about medication treatments and care plans.
  • Monitors therapeutic drugs to optimize treatment and improve patient outcomes.
  • Participates in oncology disease related groups to support development of treatment guidelines, protocols, and formulary updates.
  • Performs pharmacokinetic dosing for specified medications. Enters relevant medication and laboratory orders as necessary.
  • Coordinates organizational compliance with clinical research protocols, REMS programs, and assists with the development of evidence based treatment plans.
  • Participates in quality assurance/quality improvement activities.
  • Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
