The Oncology Patient Services Representative (OPSR) performs essential tasks related to one primary area of focus, either scheduling or reimbursement. This position collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to complete medical oncology consult and follow up scheduling, as well as complex infusion services scheduling. OPSR staff are also responsible for ensuring insurance coverage for services ordered by medical and radiation oncology providers is obtained/verified prior to completion. This includes verifying Medicare medical necessity, insurer prior authorization, and/or securing patient financial responsibility. OPSR reviews professional and technical fees in medical and radiation oncology to ensure complete and correct patient billing in accordance with Olympic Medical Center (OMC) policies and procedures, as well as compliance with Federal, state, and payor policies. OPSRs understands Medicare, outpatient, and physician payment systems including facility and professional charges. Maintains current knowledge of billing procedures, reimbursement criteria, regulatory publications and data entry programs including ARIA and Epic. OPSR staff communicate regularly with department staff and providers regarding changes in coding and billing.
