About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Remote Oncology Informatics Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Precision Medicine team, with the position based out of the corporate office in Dallas, Texas. Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country, boasting approximately 600+ providers across 300+ sites in Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. The organization's mission is to deliver high-quality, high-touch, evidence-based cancer care using leading-edge technology and research, enabling patients to fight cancer at home. Annually, Texas Oncology treats half of all Texans diagnosed with cancer. The Oncology Informaticist RN will be responsible for translating and documenting non-structured clinical information, such as textual/pdf formats, into structured data fields. This role also involves assisting with transcribing physician-ordered precision medicine tests, and ensuring the receipt and placement of results into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The RN will collaborate with data scientists within the Precision Medicine Team and clinicians across Texas Oncology and US Oncology Research to identify patients who may be eligible for enrollment in clinical trials. The position requires adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics Business Standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum five (5) years working in a clinical setting
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, specifically MS Excel
  • Strong computer skills, specifically, knowledge of systems used in healthcare.

  • Clinical (nursing, med tech, MD) background.
  • Experience with data analysis, data management associated with systems evaluation, clinical research, and analysis tools and methodologies
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Strong experience with IKnowMed

Responsibilities

  • Partnering with team members on projects to determine data requirements and extraction of that patient data from EHR/LIS/CVP and into clinical data repository.
  • Application of clinical knowledge and familiarity with working with an EMR for transactional patient management notes.
  • Performing data queries within a database and completing chart reviews within specific application(s), such as the EMR.
  • Provide clinical support to the Precision Medicine Team for further education in the field of medical oncology.
  • Assists to identify and resolve problems with applications.
  • Provides feedback on applications to development teams as to workflow processes and technological solutions.
  • Research and respond to routine and complex inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Reviews co-workers’ work to ensure accuracy.
  • Review identified patients for qualifying electronic alerts and recording per protocol. Including weekly, monthly, or quarterly reporting as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned relative to the development of the project Initiative.
  • Participate and prepare summaries for virtual tumor board.
