The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care, utilizing the critical thinking model of the nursing process. This includes adhering to standards of practice such as assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care (teaching and health promotion), and evaluation, as well as standards of professional performance like ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN must possess clinical knowledge and skills specific to their clinical area. The position is for the 2 East Fami-Leigh unit at Sentara Leigh Hospital, a 24-bed medicine unit specializing in oncology patients, also caring for a wide range of medical diagnoses including diabetes, pulmonary, cardiac, and end-of-life care. The unit is dedicated to providing an exceptional healthcare experience. New graduate RNs and experienced nurses transitioning into this specialty are welcome, with support from an 11-week Transition to Practice program and a comprehensive 6-month residency program for new graduates.
