Requirements

  • College level courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology or
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent in experience
  • Oncology Data Specialist Certification Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in an approved (Cancer Program) tumor registry.

Responsibilities

  • Abstracting: Identify analytic & nonanalytic cases within 6 months of diagnosis and collects data as outlined in the FORDS manual, current State Cancer Registry Handbook and any information required by Cancer Committee Members. Abstracts a minimum of 6 abstracts per day (1abst/1.15hr). Minimum of 35 cases completed per week for remote abstractors.
  • Maintains a 95% accuracy rate in abstracting, suspensing and casefinding as required by the Cancer Committee Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Follow-up: Identifies information necessary for a completed "follow-up." Maintains follow-up according to ACoS Standards. Able to demonstrate/obtain follow-up information via telephone calls, internet, Oacis, and Siemens to assist in follow-up. Performs data entry of information obtained in the follow-up process.
  • Staging Forms: Identifies cases eligible for staging. Able to place the proper staging form in the medical record. Identify physician responsible for completing the staging form.
  • Prepares Charts for physician review. Assist physicians during QA review.
  • Peer Review: Registrar is able to review other registrar's abstract. Gives and receives constructive criticism.
  • Attend at least one state, local, regional or national meeting annually to be in compliance with ACOS.
