About The Position

Monmouth University is seeking applications for On-Call Radio Dispatchers in the University Police department. The candidate would be expected to: receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police and fire service, emergency ambulance service, information and after hours calls; determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures; relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Requirements

  • Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to complete Dispatch Desk reports and other related reports.
  • Must be reliable, able to monitor several radios and telephones concurrently, remain calm under pressure and be able to communicate effectively with students, employees and the general public.
  • Willingness to work on University holidays and to work overtime when required.

Responsibilities

  • Determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures.
  • Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages.
  • Question callers to determine their locations, and the nature of their problems in order to determine the type of response needed.
  • Enter, update, and retrieve information from teletype networks and computerized data systems regarding such things as wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles.
  • Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification.
  • Receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police and fire service, emergency ambulance service, information and after hours calls.
  • Maintain access to, and security of, highly sensitive materials.
  • Maintain files of information relating to emergency calls such as personnel rosters, and emergency call-out and pager files.
  • Operate base radio for 2-way communications with Police and Facilities Management personnel
  • Monitor transmissions from Monmouth County Radio and scanners from adjacent Police Departments.
  • Issue parking decals and other permits.
  • Record vehicle registration/information into the database.
  • Obtain “look ups” from county and state computer systems.
  • Monitor the computerized 911, fire and security alarm systems.
