About The Position

Job duties of the Georgia Aquarium Part/Part Time Maintenance Diver are on call and specific to Working Dives. The diver will assume a role of working diver under the regulations for commercial diving as outline by OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart T. Commercial-oriented diving tasks shall include, but not be limited to deployment, moving, and retrieving of heavy objects; using heavy hand or power tools; the inspection, maintenance, and repair of aquarium exhibits; the application and repair of underwater coatings and liners, and other tasks NOT exempt from OSHA’s commercial diving regulations. Further, the PPT Maintenance Diver shall be required to work with a diverse team of divers in the implementation of dive safety procedures and guidelines ensuring safety at the facility and offshore.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Hold current First Aid and Adult CPR, and Oxygen Provider certification or the ability to obtain one.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in working and/or aquarium-related diving.
  • Hold current dive certification(s) from a nationally recognized agency or agencies, the level of Advanced Open Water and/or ADCI at the minimum.
  • Hold a Maintenance Diver 2 status, being able to do monthly maintenance and regulator rebuilds.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Pass Georgia Aquarium’s Written Dive Knowledge Exam (minimum score of 80%).
  • Pass Georgia Aquarium’s Dive Physical.
  • Pass Georgia Aquarium’s Swim Test.

Responsibilities

  • Meets all applicable requirements as outlined in Georgia Aquarium’s Diving Operations and Procedures Manual.
  • Adheres to dive safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains, inspects, and repairs dive equipment ensuring all is within the proper operating parameters to provide a safe working environment for the divers.
  • Maintains preventative maintenance on breathable air systems while maintaining precise records.
  • Helps to ensure that all divers are following policies set forth by the Dive Control Board.
  • Take active role in the aquarium’s exhibit maintenance and repair program, which will include, leak detection and repair via applied injection techniques and underwater acrylic restoration polishing.
  • Assist Zoological Operations and Life Support Systems staff in the repairs and modifications of the LSS systems.
  • Maintain the highest standards of work area cleanliness at all times.
  • Interface effectively with other departments to maintain the highest standards of quality.
  • Perform other duties as workload necessitates.
  • Effectively express ideas verbally and non-verbally and actively listen to individuals and groups.
  • Expresses ideas clearly and concisely in written form using letters, reports, and other documents.
