About The Position

Responsible for leading and managing the press and prep departments with focus on safety, quality, productivity, and people.     Interviews, selects, and trains new staff in the department. Oversees the daily workflow of the department. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.  Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.   Lead, direct and manage all prepress and offset press operations. Identify, implement and enforce process control metrics throughout prepress and press areas, including plate curves, image density, ink density, dot gain, fountain solution, blanket packing, bearer pressures, etc. identify and plan for associate skill requirements. Recommend and implement the most cost-effective staffing strategies that achieve a high level of service as measured by throughput and quality. Provide leadership in process improvement to include researching, recommending and facilitating new or improved processes and changes that will result in increased production, improved quality, reduced cost, and improved safety within the departments. Review, investigate and identify causes within the department for spoilage and/or other issues; review and implement improved processes with supervisors. Review manufacturing performance for quality and production standards as needed. Evaluate and recommend equipment to increase production, improve quality, reduce cost, and/or improve safety within the department. Strengthen and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for equipment; identify and implement preventive maintenance techniques to avoid unscheduled downtime. Lead and enforce root cause analysis techniques on all quality, spoilage and unexpected downtime issues; document and communicate all work instruction and measurement changes to incorporate improvement initiatives. Attend and participate in meetings for job scheduling, job planning, production/shipping discrepancies, customer specific requests or complaints, safety programs and policy changes, manufacturing process improvements, equipment design, process control changes and other project or department meetings as necessary. Work closely with key vendors to ensure that Sheridan is obtaining best value from the relationship. Communicate results against published goals to department associates and use results to incorporate accountability and identify continuous improvement opportunities. Hire, develop, supervise, support, and evaluate associates in area of responsibility to include supporting positive employee relations; enforcing company policies, department procedures, and safety procedures; ensuring policies are administered consistently and equitably; recommending and executing personnel actions; addressing associate complaints and resolving issues; completing routine administrative tasks such as approving time and attendance, reviewing vacation schedules, etc. Prepare and manage the annual budget for department. Proactively support continuous improvement initiatives and activities. Consistently and effectively serve as a positive role model by living Sheridan’s core values. Other duties as assigned.   Bachelor’s degree in related field required or combination of experience and education equivalent to five years of related experience required. Five years of supervisory/managerial print industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility or equivalent experience required. Proven record of establishing measurement systems within a production environment. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Working knowledge of ERP systems and applications required. Ability to learn and use company-specific computer applications and software. Ability to lead for the future by facilitating change; managing work effectively; facilitating and making decisions; taking smart risks; and elevating service standards. Ability to lead self by being accountable for results; possessing, applying, and increasing business knowledge and skills; supporting decisions; exhibiting professionalism; and sharing information appropriately.
