Job Overview: Marketing & Mobilization (M&M), a part of External Relations (ER) is a dynamic team, tasked with overseeing and creating communications and marketing, building the IRC’s global profile and brand, increasing private revenue from deeper donor engagement and partnerships, and influencing our target audiences. In alignment with our Strategy100 commitments, M&M has launched ambitious multi-year campaigns that raise funding, profile and influence and will improve our share of voice and resonance in key geographies and globally. The Content and Creative team, a part of M&M, consists of award-winning creative specialists and idea partners, developing powerful communications and experiences to engage audiences and ultimately to deliver on ER ambitions and objectives. Our mission is to be a leading provider of brand creative and storytelling products about the IRC’s clients, staff and programs. The Officer, Private Fundraising Communications plays a pivotal role in securing support for the IRC’s most ambitious and impactful priorities. This writer brings the IRC’s Impact at Scale vision to life—translating complex program strategies into clear, compelling communications that motivate giving across Trusts & Foundations, High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI), Global New Business prospects, and Corporate partners. Working closely with the Strategy Unit, program teams, and External Relations colleagues, the Officer develops high‑quality proposals, reports, and pitch materials that show donors the meaningful impact their investment can make. The ideal candidate is a powerful storyteller and strategic thinker who can illuminate how the IRC’s innovations and evidence‑driven approaches deliver meaningful change for millions of people. By crafting persuasive narratives that underscore what makes the IRC’s work effective and urgent, the Officer will help mobilize the private resources needed to grow our impact and improve more lives, at greater scale, with solutions that work.

Requirements

  • 5+years of experience in professional writing, fundraising communications, grant writing, or similar fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical, programmatic, or research‑heavy content into compelling, donor‑ready materials.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a portfolio showcasing persuasive storytelling and strong narrative structure.
  • Strong understanding of humanitarian or international development contexts preferred.
  • Experience partnering with program specialists and subject‑matter experts.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with using data, evidence, and human-interest storytelling in fundraising communications.

Responsibilities

  • Business Development Writing & Donor Communications Serve as the primary writer for Impact at Scale collateral, including proposals, reports, pitch decks, one-pagers and brochures for Foundations and Trust, Corporate and HNWI donors and prospective donors.
  • Produce sophisticated, persuasive, and well‑structured proposals that position the IRC as a leading humanitarian organization delivering measurable impact at scale.
  • Translate highly technical program content into accessible, persuasive narratives that demonstrate how the IRC’s innovations and evidence-based approaches increase reach, are cost‑effective, and impactful for people affected by conflict and disaster.
  • Communicate complex program strategies, theories of change, and results in accessible donor language that highlights how Impact at Scale priorities allow the IRC to expand proven solutions, and develop compelling value propositions and case statements that distinguish the IRC for private donors.
  • Impact Reporting Develop comprehensive, accurate, and emotionally resonant donor reports that demonstrate the outcomes, evidence, and impact driven by IRC programs across regions and technical areas.
  • Leverage qualitative and quantitative data—including monitoring results, client insights, and human-interest stories—to communicate what sets IRC programs, innovation, research, and advocacy apart.
  • Collaborate with technical experts and program staff to ensure reporting is accurate, transparent, and aligned with donor expectations.
  • Demonstrate strong editorial judgment when turning raw technical inputs into cohesive, compelling narratives.
  • Project Management Serve as a primary writing partner for account managers on Impact at Scale efforts, helping them navigate communications resources and ensuring high‑quality written products across a diverse funding portfolio.
  • Lead end‑to-end Impact at Scale proposal and report development processes:Curate content and gather inputs from colleagues across the IRC.Workshop drafts with program, communications, and technical teams.Build and manage editorial timelines to ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Track milestones and proactively follow up with contributors to ensure proposal and reporting deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with Program, Finance, Strategy, Design & UX, and Communications teams to shape custom Impact at Scale communications and ensure alignment around priorities, messaging, and deliverables.
