About The Position

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) is a state agency with roughly 1,500 employees in seven offices across Ohio. BWC cares for Ohio workers by promoting a culture of safety at work and at home, ensuring quality medical and pharmacy care for injured workers, and providing insurance policies and safety/wellness services to Ohio employers. This position involves performing clerical tasks in support of policy processing teams, claims, and the Mailroom department, including preparing documents for imaging, operating state-owned vehicles for mail and package delivery, utilizing material handling equipment, processing incoming and outgoing mail, and managing new materials and equipment distribution.

Requirements

  • 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in using personal computer & related business office software
  • 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in office practices & procedures
  • Or 6 mos. exp. as Office Professional 1, 12141
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division & reading common English vocabulary
  • Valid driver's license if position requires operation of vehicle to pick up or deliver mail
  • Knowledge of: BWC policies & procedures; Division & departmental policies & standard operating procedures; BWC forms; office practices & procedures; public relations; customer service principles; BWC document retention schedules & Naming Policy guidelines
  • Skill in: Personal Computer; software (e.g. Outlook E-Mail, Right-Fax, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Access); Office Equipment (e.g. fax machines, telephones)
  • Ability to: forward materials to customers via US Mail, Express Mail, UPS, fax, & E-Mail; identify customer needs when customer is unsure & follow up accordingly, carry out detailed but basic instructions; deal with problems involving few variables within familiar context; deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables; maintain accurate records; cooperate with co-workers on group projects

Responsibilities

  • Performs clerical tasks in support of policy processing teams, claims and Mailroom department
  • Prepares employer and claims documents for imaging
  • Operates State-owned vehicles (e.g., vans, passenger vehicles, and 26' box truck) in order to pick-up and deliver mail and packages to parties on and off-site
  • Utilizes material handling equipment (e.g., dollies, flatbed carts)
  • Retrieves mail from other State buildings and handles paperwork associated with completing deliveries
  • Processes incoming and outgoing policy and claims mail
  • Uses computer to verify policy coverage status of employer in order to locate policy files
  • Receives, inspects and records new material, supplies and equipment for distribution throughout the agency
  • Places asset tags on received items according to rules, policies and procedures
  • Requires travel and ability to legally operate a state-owned vehicle
