About The Position

The Office of Admission plays a central role in the larger mission of Saint Mary’s College. Recruitment and selection of a diverse class of students involves a multi-year approach to connecting with students and their families. The Office of Admission intern position is a professional role designed to give Saint Mary students a glimpse of what it is like to work in college admissions and the higher education sector. Successful interns should be passionate about Saint Mary’s College, speak, write and communicate effectively, and enjoy meeting and interacting with a wide variety of individuals. The intern will lead campus tours daily and assist with admission presentations in a polished and professional manner. As part of the recruitment team, the intern will welcome families and help to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The intern will assist the coordinator of social media and communications by producing video content for marketing purposes and writing social media posts. In this position, the summer intern will learn about customer service, relationship building, and visit/event planning. She will be an incredibly valuable member of the team over the summer as she will consistently be the primary point of contact for visiting families. She will also be our primary student voice for all marketing efforts during the summer months.

Requirements

  • Candidates should be rising sophomore standing or higher
  • Applicants must possess strong written and oral communication skills and have the ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Candidates must be familiar with and comfortable using various forms of social media including Facebook and Instagram.
  • A commitment is required from early May through the beginning of August and the student must be in good academic/community standing with the College.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally have an interest in the fields of admissions, counseling, higher education, public relations, communications, marketing, or event planning, though this is not a requirement.
  • The ideal candidate should have a variety of experiences on and off campus; this might include campus leadership positions, community service, internships, athletics, study abroad, and/or campus ministry to name a few.
  • Candidates should be confident communicating a positive Saint Mary’s experience with prospective students, families, and alumnae.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily campus tours
  • Assist with admission presentations
  • Fill in as Welcome Desk staff to answer phones and greet families upon arrival
  • Correspond with students and families using various forms of communication
  • Create content for emails, the admission website, social media platforms, and outbound communication plans
  • Work on social media content
  • Entering data and working on reports
  • Review and research admission policies
  • Create training documents and models for future student employees
  • Fact check tour script and other admission documents for the upcoming academic year
  • Attend meetings with recruitment staff and marketing staff
  • Meet weekly with the Student Employment Coordinator to review performance and cultivate a mentorship for higher education and professional roles
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned
