About The Position

RK&K is hiring an Office Engineer for our Virginia region which will be based out of our Fairfax office. As an Office Engineer you will assist construction managers and construction inspection staff at various stages throughout the project duration. This position has plenty of growth potential and the ability to work on some of our biggest and most challenging CM/CEI programs/projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a nationally accredited college or university in any of the following areas of study: Construction Management, Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Environmental, Systems disciplines), or similar course of study.
  • 3+ years continuous Construction Management experience performing the duties of a Senior Inspector, Resident Engineer (RE), Office Engineer (OE), or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge of typical construction methods and procedures including cost-control measures and schedule analysis techniques.
  • Strong background of demonstrated ability in conflict resolution, negotiation, and claims analysis techniques.
  • Strong background in the interpretation and review of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, etc.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including functional familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs and maneuver in constricted construction zones.
  • Ability to pass Criminal History Background Check (CHBC).
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification and/or Construction-Manager-In-Training (CMIT)
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification
  • Professional licensure or certification such as PE, PSP, CCP or similar certification
  • Any VDOT or equivalent inspector certifications
  • Local experience with Northern Virginia localities, counties or VDOT

Responsibilities

  • Assists Construction Managers and the team in preparation of contract documents
  • Develops inspection and testing plans based review of the plans, specifications, standards, and shop drawings.
  • Obtains daily schedule of contractor’s activities and assigns inspection and technician staff as required.
  • Provides daily inspection staffing/ schedule, writes a daily dairy summarizing a project area’s activities to include contractor’s work, inspections performed, and on-site materials testing performed.
  • Documents issues in a log and provides weekly updates (immediate if required) to upper management.
  • Makes determination of complaint and non-compliant work. Logs non-compliant work, reviews and recommends approval of corrective actions, and inspects and signs off on corrective work.
  • Attends preparatory meetings, progress meetings, quality resolution meetings, and safety briefings.
  • Reviews and approves inspector daily diaries and track schedule activities and identifies potential delays and recommends mitigation.
  • Reviews monthly invoice from contractor.
  • Coordinates material inspection process with Materials Manager as well as scheduling of materials sampling and testing.
  • Identifies potential issues/ changes in the field and provides information to upper management to help resolve the issue.
  • Conducts construction project site visits to monitor project progress and assure progress schedule integrity, and participate in any field resolution meetings
