About The Position

Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We've grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 8,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Business level English required – read/write/speak/listen.
  • Business level Japanese preferred – read/write/speak/listen.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload.
  • Pass the Sake Adviser and Sake Sommelier course within 1 year of employment.
  • High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree and above preferred.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience required; 3+ years preferred.
  • Familiar with WordPress, Zoom, Teams, and QuickBooks.
  • Basic mathematical knowledge - markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements, counting inventory, etc.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage deadlines.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to completing tasks.
  • Accurate data entry and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to draft clear, professional articles, reports, and correspondence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Japanese foods and sakes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate program registration and update communication received from WSET, SWE, American Wine Society, American Distilling Institute, colleges, and wine schools.
  • Participate in planning, coordinating, and hosting sake-related events and tastings.
  • Edit and revise program textbooks and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Prepare Sake School class setup.
  • Maintain and regularly update SSA websites, social media channel, and newsletters.
  • Assist with courses, instructors, and invigilate exams.
  • Place orders, assemble sample sets, create textbooks, and prepare shipments.
  • Perform simple bookkeeping and daily journal for accounting purposes.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Respond to inquiries via email and phone in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain SSI, JSA, WSET, and SWE’s updates and filling the updated communications for each program received from the professional institutes.
  • Support team members per request or as need to increase division’s productivity and efficiency.
  • Operate office equipment such as copy machine, scanner, PC, and printer, to support clerical and administrative tasks.
  • Attend Sake School events and functions outside of normal working hours.
  • Attend company events and functions outside of normal working hours.
  • Other duties as required from manager.
  • Obligation to answer to all management.
