Requirements

  • Master's Degree
  • School Occupational Therapist Special Services license issued by the CDE and the Colorado DORA

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 plans.
  • Conduct assessments of motor, visual-motor, and sensory-motor skills for students referred for special education evaluation to help determine eligibility for services.
  • Participate in the IEP/Section 504 process, providing input on assessment measures, intervention strategies, and student progress.
  • Collaborate as a member of the special education team to deliver comprehensive services to students with disabilities.
  • Consult with teachers, school administrators, parents, and relevant stakeholders regarding students’ physical, motor, and sensory development.
  • Work closely with teachers to integrate occupational therapy goals into the classroom environment and support classroom objectives through therapy programs.
  • Provide training to relevant individuals on effective methods to assist students in mainstream settings.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust occupational therapy interventions in collaboration with school staff and parents.
  • Utilize treatment strategies involving physical, sensory, manual, creative, and recreational activities to support student development.
  • Design adaptive equipment and devices for individual students and classroom use.
  • Maintain an accurate record of student caseload requirements and update the Special Education Administrator on any changes.
  • Maintain a detailed schedule and service logs, and track student progress toward therapy goals.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in handling confidential matters and materials.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to stay informed about current practices and research in occupational therapy.
  • Participate in school initiatives such as screening programs to support student development.
  • Attend parent-teacher meetings as needed to discuss student progress and therapy plans.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned by the building principal
