About The Position

Plan, conduct and evaluate an educational therapy program for all assigned students. This is a sedentary position with light work that involves sitting a portion of the time, but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception; handling and working with educational and psychological materials; and providing highly technical oral and written information and reports. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job. The Occupational Therapist works under the direction of the Director of Student Services and/or the Building Administrator. The Occupational Therapist maintains continuous contact with various staff members to insure close coordination and communication necessary for successfully accomplishing the objectives of the occupational therapy program within the total educational process. They also maintain contact with parents, parent-teacher associations, professional associations and other community organizations in order to promote understanding and goodwill toward the objectives of the occupational therapy program in the Monroe School District.

Requirements

  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, administration and support personnel in a team approach to solving individual learning problems.
  • Ability to access a child using both standardized and clinical assessment techniques.
  • Must possess or be eligible for Washington State Education Staff Associate Certificate as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with all students, staff, parents and community.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license; must provide automobile for on-the-job use.
  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and prescribe and implement an instructional and activity program to meet each student’s aptitude, interest, level of achievement, instructional and motor development needs.
  • Conduct parent and/or parent-student conferences to interpret students’ educational, social/behavioral and physical development and interpret program rationale.
  • Develop an Individualized Education Program for each identified child.
