About The Position

This position involves rendering Occupational therapy services to an assigned caseload of children at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The role contributes to the advancement of Occupational Therapy practice through education of staff therapists, patients/families, students, and other health care providers. Key responsibilities include complex OT oncology specific evaluations, recommendations, education, and treatment interventions. The therapist will collaborate with occupational therapists, physical therapy, and the multidisciplinary team, advocate for patients, communicate changes in clinical exams and updated clinical recommendations, and complete administrative aspects of patient care, including scheduling follow-ups. Additionally, the role supports oncology program development and oncology occupational therapy through various projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy will be accepted for US-educated individuals licensed previous to 2008 and internationally-education students 2012).
  • Occupational Therapist (Pennsylvania) license from the Pennsylvania State Licensing Board upon hire.
  • Occupational Therapist (New Jersey) license from the New Jersey State Licensing Board upon hire.
  • Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) upon hire.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor-led psychomotor skills verification (e.g., American Heart Association or Red Cross) within 3 months of hire.
  • Receive an annual influenza vaccine if working in patient care buildings or having patient-facing responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Select and administer standardized and non-standardized evaluations on individuals with complex medical, social, psychological issues independently, using advanced problem solving skills to identify necessary resources, including but not limited to adaptive equipment, splinting and casting needs.
  • Identify subtle impairments and their impact on function and disability and develop a plan of care that integrates therapy into the lifestyle of the family.
  • Develop individualized therapy plans which include measurable goals/objectives for treatment, and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members as appropriate.
  • Ensure documentation is thorough, complete, and reflects integration of all areas of patient care with an advanced knowledge base and ability to interpret assessment findings.
  • Provide advanced procedural interventions.
  • Provide and instruct in the use of adaptive equipment splint and casting needs as clinically indicated.
  • Deliver patient education that is family-centered by considering family lifestyle, environment, learning needs, and collaborative goal setting.
  • Achieve high levels of patient satisfaction, reduced risk for impairment, promotion of wellness, and identification of community resources through patient/client interaction.
  • Instruct relevant family members, caregivers, and other team members in therapeutic strategies and accommodations and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Demonstrate entry-level skills in OT practice and deliver evidence-based clinical care with mentorship.
  • Maintain current skills and knowledge by identifying own learning needs, both formally and informally, to practice a lifestyle of life-long learning.
  • Provide mentorship to students in identified areas when appropriate.
  • Contribute to the current Occupational Therapy body of knowledge via presentations, in-services/learning opportunities both in and out of the department when appropriate.
  • Ensure patients and families receive appropriate, comprehensive, efficient, and effective quality of care from admission through discharge via relationships developed with other health care personnel, both internal and external to CHOP.
  • Negotiate differences in opinion within a team and come to the best decision for the patient.
  • Apply research to practice.
  • Encourage, participate, and promote activities that establish optimal outcomes of patient management provided by Occupational Therapy.
  • Contribute to department policy/procedures via program development, evaluation forms, and clinical guidelines when appropriate.
  • Maintain productivity and fiscal responsibility in the utilization/provision of services.
  • Contribute to the development and modification of departmental/hospital systems as needed due to growth and/or changes in clinical programs when appropriate.
