About The Position

To provide occupational therapy services to students with disabilities who are eligible for the services.

Requirements

  • Associates degree from an accredited program
  • Pass the National Board for Certification in OT (NBCOT) exam
  • Obtain SC License, or other legal credential required
  • Must exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer
  • to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
  • hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
  • speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone
  • physical agility to lift up to 40 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in the educational setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Consults with teachers, other appropriate staff, medical personnel, and parents to assist with assessing student’s needs and to recommend materials, equipment techniques, accommodations, and modifications for students who qualify
  • Assists with screenings and assessments to determine the need for services to meet special education/504 requirements
  • Implements 504/Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives for occupational therapy to enable students to benefit from their educational programs
  • Attend IEP/504 committee meetings as needed
  • Provide occupational therapy services to eligible students
  • Maintains daily log documentation of therapy for individual students
  • Submits Medicaid documentation for reimbursement
  • Participates in and maintains training required to conduct assistive technology evaluations
  • Facilitates use/implementation and data collection of assistive technology
  • Attend staff training in the appropriate use of techniques, materials, and equipment for individual students
  • Attends professionally related activities to maintain current knowledge in the field of occupational therapy and educational services
  • May implement behavior management programs for students as designed by certified staff, observe and reports significant student behavior, behavioral patterns and/or other problems to the Occupational Therapist
  • Prepares materials and performs clerical duties
  • Prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and therapy activities.
