About The Position

Employee Occupational Health & Wellness (EOHW) is looking for an Occupational Health Technician to join our team. In this role, you’ll provide hands-on clinical support that helps keep Duke Health’s workforce safe, healthy, and ready to care for others. You’ll work directly with employees through services like vaccinations, screenings, and testing, while supporting critical programs such as fit testing and hearing conservation. Requirements

  • Completion of a state-approved accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program and certification as a North Carolina EMTOR
  • Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program and current licensure in North CarolinaOR
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), with certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • One to three years of relevant experience
  • Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Administer routine vaccinations
  • Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture or finger stick
  • Perform drug screenings
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients and prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Remove sutures/staples
  • Change sterile and non-sterile dressings
  • Perform phlebotomy, electrocardiograms (EKGs), vision screening, vaccine administration, tuberculosis (TB) testing, and color blindness screening for groups out of compliance
  • Maintain detailed records of tests performed and report laboratory test results to appropriate personnel
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
  • Manage the fit testing program, including maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, and accurately fit test for N95 respirators for tuberculosis (TB)
  • Plan and schedule annual audiograms for departments in the hearing conservation program
  • Plan and schedule fit testing and prepare and calibrate equipment daily prior to use
  • Maintain clinical supply of patient care supplies
  • Assist in other EOHW roles and duties when needs are known, at any one of the EOHW clinics located in Durham or Raleigh, North Carolina
