About The Position

We are looking for an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Coordinator who will be responsible for the Safety Programs at Okanagan Specialty Fruits facilities in Moses Lake and Wenatchee, and our Tasting Room in Chelan. The Safety Coordinator’s main duty is to support Facility and Department Managers in their duty in ensuring adherence and compliance to our APP (Accident Prevention Plan), procedures and policies to reduce work-related injuries and provide a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree in OHS or equivalent preferred.
  • Safety Management Certification Required
  • A minimum of 2 years of progressive and applicable experience in an OHS department role; preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Safety Program Management: Lock out/Tag out, Confided Space, Equipment Certifications, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State/Provincial occupational health & safety requirements and worker’s compensation/Work safe required
  • 3 years of experience participating, or leading Safety Committees
  • Understanding and execution of GHS and SDS programs
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified
  • Past participation in or preferably leading of Regulatory visits/inspections, audits, investigations and corrective action follow-up.
  • Working knowledge of Crisis and ERT (Emergency Response Team) Management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; including creating presentations, education materials, and training plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
  • Possess and maintain a Valid Driver's license.
  • Able to work in various environments – wet, cold, hot, indoors, outdoors

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 Certification or higher an asset
  • Experience with Controlled Atmosphere and Ammonia safety protocols preferred
  • Good working knowledge of online education platforms, HRIS, ERPs, and other Manufacturing systems a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Providing guidance and strategic direction to leaders and implementing the management system (including, but not limited to work processes, standards, and procedures)
  • Key Influencer of Safety Mindset and Culture and driver of continuous improvement in health, safety, and security at all levels.
  • Emphasizes to employees a culture of caring where each employee is accountable and responsible for Health & Safety conditions and behaviors at all times.
  • Ensures audit readiness, and compliance with Local, State & Federal Guidelines
  • Facilitates Employee Health & safety committee and supports Dept. front line Supervisors and Managers in their OHS meetings and trainings.
  • Collaborate with Operations Management to ensure emergency action and crisis management plan is up to date and that the management teams and assigned first responders are prepared to respond to emergencies
  • Conduct and document scheduled inspections that include but are not limited to safety showers/eyewashes, fire extinguishers, ladders, and confined space equipment.
  • Maintain SDS records
  • Assist in investigations or conduct independent investigations when needed.
  • Coordinate and manage the Hearing Conversation Program
  • Maintaining the OSHA 300 Log, and all required and requested safety records
  • Conducts periodic crisis drill simulations
  • Utilize alchemy training system to create training modules in support of OHS program.
  • Various other tasks as requested by supervisor.
