About The Position

Under general direction, the NASA Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) Occupational Health Physician is responsible for the planning, direction, supervision, administration, and coordination of medical services at the NASA WFF medical clinic in accordance with NASA policy and procedural documents. This position delivers a variety of professional medical services with a small team of medical professionals for occupational surveillance medical exams and certifications; WFF emergency medical services oversight; acute illnesses and injury treatment; work related injury evaluation; developing health and safety policies; employee wellness consultation; and providing guidance on compliance with local and national regulations. This job requires on-site clinic support during normal business hours.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) in the State of Virginia
  • Graduate of an accredited U.S. medical school (or equivalent) of osteopathic medicine or the equivalent.
  • Board Certified-Preventive Medicine, Occupational Medicine, or a primary care specialty.
  • At least two years of experience as a physician in an occupational medicine program or five years of experience in primary care.
  • Maintain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Course C certificate.
  • Maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Eligible to obtain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA Class 1 through 3 Aviation Medical Examination certification.
  • Trauma Life Care and Pediatric Life Support as required for State of VA certification as a EMS Operational Medical Director.
  • Familiar and experience with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) occupational health and safety policies and standards.
  • Current, or eligible to establish, Drug Enforcement Administration licensure.
  • Ability to thrive in a team atmosphere and effectively work with all levels of employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace related occupational health requirements.
  • Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) Professional Supervisor.
  • Prior experience delivering in emergency medical services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational related surveillance and certification examinations including for various occupational certifications for work in hazardous environments; noise, laser and radiation exposure; protective services and emergency work; diving operations; crane operations; flight crews; commercial drivers; exposure to respiratory toxins.
  • Ensuring medical services delivered meet the requirements of NPR 1800.1, NASA Occupational Health Program Procedures; OSHA; Department of Transportation (DOT); Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC); and other regulatory agencies.
  • Administer First aid treatment and emergency care for personnel who become ill or are injured on the NASA WFF site.
  • Assist NASA with consultation on reasonable accommodation program determinations.
  • Foster and mentor staff on continuous improvement to find more efficient and effective methods of health care and wellness delivery.
  • Provide medical advice to senior personnel at NASA, to include emergent health issues for hazards in the work environment, pandemic response, or job-related conditions.
  • Perform data entry into electronic health record systems.
  • Serve as the primary physician overseeing the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program at Wallops Flight Facility Site, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Eligible to serve as a State of Virginia certified Operations Medical Director for federal firefighting department (EMS), to include maintaining, prescribing, dispensing and properly disposing of drugs.
  • Ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, contractual and customer requirements along with any other specialized program requirements throughout the center.
  • Serving as the subject matter expert and primary advisor to NEMCON and HSG leadership for all medically related impacts to execution of company services.
