About The Position

The occupational health nurse with Thundermist Health Center performs assessments and manages work-related injuries, provides health screenings (including pre-employment and TB testing), administers immunizations, manages workers' compensation cases, and assists with health and safety policies and compliance. This person is also responsible for health education, responding to emergencies, and promoting overall employee wellness and safety.

Requirements

  • Active and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Rhode Island.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in occupational health, environmental health, emergency room, or public health.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification is required.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety regulations and standards (such as OSHA, CDC, etc.) is important.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and incident reporting systems is valuable.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills are needed to work with employees, management, and other healthcare providers.
  • Exceptional oral and written skills needed and ability to develop and deliver public presentations.
  • Ability to review, evaluate and modify policies in support of the health and safety of patients and employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S) certification is strongly preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health Nursing, Public Health, MSN,or Healthcare Administration.
  • Experience with quality improvement models and tools a plus.

  • Strong presentation skills, particularly with data, analytics and recommendations

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance and direction for occupational health activities, including infection control, immunization compliance, and FTCA/high risk training requirements.
  • Responds promptly to serious employee injuries, ensuring proper documentation, compliance and learning and collaborates with Human Resources to provide return-to-work guidance.
  • Oversees employee immunization and screening data compliance and heath record safety.
  • Works in collaboration with Human Resources to ensure staff compliance with onboarding, credentialing, recredentialing, and occupational health requirements.
  • Oversees occupational health screenings, onboarding and annual vaccination requirements.
  • Leads initiatives to address safety concerns to reduce workplace risks.
  • Promotes safe healthcare delivery and work environments by ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols.
  • Implements strategies to enhance the accuracy of clinical processes to reduce workplace injuries and improve patient outcomes.
  • Manage cases for worker's compensation claims, including rehabilitation, return-to-work plans, and workplace adjustments.
  • Develop and implement health and safety programs and policies.
  • Provide health education and training to employees on workplace safety.
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Participate in disaster preparedness activities.
  • Manage supply inventory for the occupational health program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
