About The Position

UHS is excited to announce an opening for an OB Performance Specialist Coordinator supporting our Maternity, Newborn, and Nursery Service Line. This vital role helps drive excellence in patient care and strengthens the overall quality and performance of OB services across our system. The OB Performance Improvement Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting of the Performance Improvement/Quality Improvement and Safety programs and practices in the Maternity service line. Designs and implements methods to continuously improve clinical outcomes and compliance with evidence-based guidelines, regulations, and professional standards of care. Educates staff and physicians on PI Plan; and develops activities. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration with Quality Management Department, Surgical Service leadership, medical staff and other interdisciplinary teams committed to patient care excellence, prevention of adverse events, and positive patient outcomes. Requirements

  • BSN or evidence of planned completion in 2 years.
  • Three years clinical experience in Obstetric nursing.
  • Current RN licensure in New York State
  • CPR within 3 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree
  • Previous experience related to safety and quality management principles.
  • RNC-OB and or RNC-MNN

Responsibilities

  • Consistently meets or exceeds expectations for a Registered Nurse when providing patient care including: the use of Nursing Process to assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement and evaluate nursing care; evidence-based practice; patient-centered care; education for patients and families; administration of medications; collaboration with the health care team, productivity and effective resources utilization; participation in Shared Governance; support of a learning environment; and professional development.
  • Conducts annual education needs assessment. Gathers input from Quality Management, Nurse Managers, staff and Nursing Education and Professional Practice.
  • Plans educational programming based on needs assessment, utilizing adult learning principles, which is consistent for all areas cross-site.
  • Schedules educational programming at times to meet staff needs.
  • Coordinates required certifications for the practice area. (i.e., BASIC Coronary Course, Fetal Monitoring, NRP).
  • Develops and maintains a written progressive orientation program that incorporates the Joint Commission standards and New York State requirements along with the Competency Based Orientation Tools (CBO) and UHS Clinical Coaching guidelines.
  • Coordinates and oversees orientation programs in the practice area (may be cross-site) including meeting with new employees regularly during the orientation period to evaluate progress.
  • Provides progress reports to Nurse Managers.
  • Facilitates, coordinates and conducts ongoing quality management and improvement activities for the practice area.
  • Compiles quarterly data related to quality performance improvement indicators and submits to the Nurse Managers and Director of Nursing.
  • Maintains educational records for orientation, mandatory programs, and continuing education programs and submits records to Nursing Education and Professional Practice.
  • Plans and manages the annual Competency Assessment process of staff to ensure completion.
  • Serves as an education consultant to nursing personnel.
  • After appropriate training, functions as a Nurse Planner within the United Health Services Approved Provider Unit for Continuing Nursing Education (through the Nursing Education and Professional Practice Department).
  • Participates in a minimum of one professional nursing organization.
  • Participates in hospital-wide educational activities.
  • Participates in the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise develops.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.
