About The Position

Under general direction, this role assist management in monitoring transportation operations on the road while maintaining professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to safety and customer service. To provide a field analysis of safety deficiencies and work with the transportation safety and training department to develop a comprehensive action plan to correct deficiencies.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in school bus or public transit experience required.
  • Must have a valid CDL Class “B” license with passenger and school bus endorsements, or must obtain it within six (6) months of hiring date and maintain it throughout tenure in position.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years in safety and accident investigation in school or public transportation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic manner, representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Assists the Transportation Operations and Fleet Departments in overseeing safety and accident investigations on district property, including when a district-owned vehicle is involved in an accident on the road.
  • With the Senior Operations, Training, Safety, and other staff, develop plans and identify expected outcomes/results for the Transportation Department.
  • Assists management with investigations of incident or accident, by capturing photographs, obtaining video footage, gathering reports, and drafts investigation reports.
  • Conduct a weekly physical inspection of a random sample of buses for cleanliness and damage.
  • Assist in training, development, instruction, and testing to new bus operators in all phase of commercial driver licensure
  • Responsible for the preparation of materials, i.e., handouts, for presentations by safety and training teams.
  • Respond to both the public and district employees’ questions regarding transportation policies and management directives, and serve on committees, as assigned.
  • Respond to research requests from the general public as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Trains employees on work safety issues prescribed by OCPS, FDOE, OSHA, Florida Department of Labor and Employment Safety, or other relevant agencies.
  • Analyze reports and other documents as directed by the Senior Admin of Safety and Training or safety manager.
  • Create and/or generate weekly, quarterly, and annual analytical reports for use by senior management and Safety and Training managers, including dissemination of data.
  • Be accessible via radio at all times while on duty.
  • Identifies hazards that might harm employees, students, or visitors and initiates corrective measures.
  • Investigate mishaps and assist in developing plans to correct physical hazards associated with an accident.
  • Assist with coordinating all safety-related deficiencies and actions with the Transportation Safety and Training Department.
  • Keeps the Senior Administrator of Safety and Training and the managers of Safety and Training of Transportation Services informed of critical issues with the section and incidents about which s/he should be aware.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding transportation issues.
  • Performs other relevant duties and responsibilities assigned by the Transportation Safety Manager
  • Responsible for keeping current on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS.
  • With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in the current position.
