About The Position

This Opportunity Envision. Inspire. Transform. The WSP New York City Transportation Local Business Line Leader (LBL) is a key member of the New York regional leadership team, responsible for driving the annual business plan goals, and playing a key role in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan in the Northeast. Within the local geographic market, the LBL leads business development and service delivery through successful execution of WSP USA’s strategy, focused on our four pillars of success: Clients, Expertise, People & Culture and Operational Excellence. The LBL is a hybrid role, providing operational leadership while remaining engaged with projects and client delivery. WSP is currently initiating a search for a Local Business Lead (LBL) for our Transportation Business Line for our New York City operations. The position would be based in our One Penn Plaza office in New York. The successful candidate will take a key strategic leadership role in our operations and be responsible for the continued growth of our Transportation practice in the area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer Registration in New York State.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience, including operational leadership.
  • Proven business development capability.
  • Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability, persistent and goal-oriented.
  • Understanding of the role and end market sectors within the industry.
  • Commitment to internal and external client service.
  • Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes.
  • Motivational with a staff development mindset.
  • Experience with change management.
  • Collaborative with effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on complex and mega-projects.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods.
  • Direct experience with major NYC transportation clients including MTA, PANYNJ, NYSDOT, NYCDOT and other NYC Agencies.
  • Well-established working relationships with key leaders at client agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working closely with our technical groups and project teams to ensure all quality, safety and operational financial metrics are achieved.
  • Focuses on innovation and enhancing health & safety, quality, and sustainable standards.
  • Works with the Regional Business Line Leader on the development and execution of strategic business plans for transportation markets and sectors in the New York City metropolitan area.
  • Collaborate with internal client account managers, our strategic growth\marketing personnel and regional leadership to strategically drive the business development activities including early engagement with clients to discover upcoming opportunities in geographic area of responsibility.
  • Provides commercial risk management and governance in the execution of defined delegation of authority.
  • Works with the technical discipline leaders to attract the best industry talent and grow the business by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive.
  • Emphasizes employee development and mentoring culture to create a differentiated employee work experience and accelerates employee growth.
  • Inspires, motivates, and promotes the best of WSP to our clients and communities to ensure strong employee engagement and morale.
  • Leads and promotes engagement in relevant civic and industry associations within the local market geography.
  • Sets clients at the center for all we do, helping them be “Future Ready” through sustainable planning and design, and prepared for emerging market disrupters.
  • Brings an expanded view and integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging WSP’S full suite of offerings across all end markets, championing a “one WSP” client culture.
  • Deploys our unique expertise from our local, national and global resources to create new value for clients.
  • Manages client coordination and cross-selling efforts across all WSP business lines in coordination with Region, National Business Lines, Sector, and strategic growth team.
  • Has a deep understanding of addressable markets in the local geography, drives performance of the business and strategically grows our market share to ensure WSP is a preferred provider to our clients.
  • Leverages our broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.
  • Fosters the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry.
  • Supports the advancement of the strategic direction of the business line and positions the region for sustained and continued growth consistent within the context of the strategic plan.
  • Encourages, supports, and promotes the technical and professional development of all staff within WSP.
