About The Position

The Nutritionist II is responsible for planning and conducting individual and group nutrition education activities to provide optimal participation education. They will assure compliance with state agency program requirements and supervise staff providing nutrition education and quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or a master's degree (MA/MS) in Nutrition or nutrition related field; or a degree with 24-hours of nutrition coursework to be validated by the State Agency
  • Three (3) years of WIC clinic experience
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
  • Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

  • Physical Exam: Yes

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling to all WIC clients regarding reduction of health risk
  • Screen incoming prescriptions, counsel moms, and determine eligibility of formulas via WIC guidelines
  • Identify nutrition risk codes and nutrition care appropriate for the identified condition
  • Review all nutrition codes assigned by staff to ensure accuracy
  • Perform nutritional assessments and counseling based on information gathered by interviewing participants and evaluating anthropometric measurements (health, weight, BMI, and biochemical data - hemoglobin or hematocrit)
  • Coordinate and conduct group in-person nutrition education
  • Create social media posts in line with USDA MyPlate guidelines
  • Provide guidance to other staff teaching WIC classes to ensure that nutrition education is presented according to policies, procedures, and approved plans
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed in all areas of WIC screening
  • Provide onboarding training
  • Develop staff calendars
  • Make sure TXIN scheduler reflects clinic availability
  • Manage WIC nutritionists
  • Act as Quality Assurance Coordinator
  • Lead quarterly meetings, complete audits assigned to agency, and participate in audits regularly
  • Provide recommendations for improving clinical area
  • Conduct monthly inventory audits and complete other audits as requested
  • Coordinate and perform community outreach for the Corpus Christi Nueces County Public Health District WIC program
  • Ensure that WIC posters and pamphlets are displayed in areas that are easily displayed and accessible to the general population
