About The Position

Nutrition Educator II supports the development and implementation of nutrition education programs. Also, performs duties assigned b the WIC Manager to promote an efficient and effective program.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in nutritional education or counseling, food service, or administrative services.
  • Six semester hours in food and/or nutrition services.
  • One year of vocational or technical school training in a dietetic assistant curriculum.
  • Must be capable of exercising sound judgment when dealing with patients, staff, and community at large.
  • Must be able to follow detailed written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Plans educational lessons around themes related to food and nutrients. Selects and purchases educational materials as needed for approved recipe demonstrations.
  • Provides instruction to program participants by using games, multi-media, demonstrations, etc.
  • Provides brochures and other information relative to the assigned program.
  • Teaches proper methods of food preparation and storage consistent with food safety standards.
  • Food preparation methods may be specific to a certain population depending on the program, such as breastfeeding techniques and baby formula.
  • Organized and conducts outreach and related activities for an assigned nutritional program, such as WIC.
  • Prepares bulletin boards and distributes information at DRCHC.
  • Provides program information to community partners and forms relationships to recruit program participants and volunteers.
  • Coordinates volunteers to assist in outreach events and program activities.
  • Take measurements of program participants to track nutritional and health goals.
  • Maintains supplies for educational purposes.
  • Assists program participants in preparing shopping lists.
  • Screens potential participants for program eligibility. Provides basic information about the program guidelines.
  • Maintains program participant information and records in an electronic system. Utilizes the system to schedule appointments, load cards, print resources for participants, etc.
  • Documents lessons such as resources used and participation counts. Prepares and submits state and federal reports.
  • May make referrals to other assistance programs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
