About The Position

As a Nutrition Assistant, you will assist in delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient food services to patients and staff at Dignity Health - St. Mary Medical Center. Your daily tasks will include preparing and delivering meal trays, assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, ensuring food safety compliance, and interacting with patients regarding their dietary needs. Success in this role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong food safety knowledge, and excellent customer service to contribute to a positive dining experience. You will be responsible for following healthcare foodservice industry standards, regulations, guidelines, and procedures, including monitoring and maintaining food temperatures during cooking, holding, and storage, preventing cross-contamination, and adhering to personal hygiene requirements. The role also involves proper labeling and storage of food products, equipment, and machinery according to regulations and facility guidelines. You will prepare and serve food within menu and dietary requirements using specified kitchen utensils and equipment, and maintain knowledge of recipe ingredients to address food allergy questions. Adherence to organizational standards for patient and customer experience, ensuring proper meal portioning and aesthetically pleasing presentation, is also key. Additional responsibilities may include cashiering, serving in the retail area, assembling, delivering, and retrieving patient trays, performing cold food preparation, utility assignments (such as dishwashing, washing pots & pans, and equipment maintenance), catering functions, supporting inventory maintenance, and general cleaning of equipment and work areas.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
