About The Position

Performs basic patient care activities under the direction of a licensed nurse. Requirements

  • High school or equivalent plus formal specialized, short-term training in basic patient care (CNA, Med. Asst., Military medical training, EMT-B, NA, HHA, Nursing student who has completed a skills lab) or at least 6 months experience in direct patient care required.
  • Receives on-the-job training and successfully completes competency verification to perform primary functions within 6 weeks of date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients and documents action on patient record.
  • Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in patient record.
  • Collects and records vital signs in patient record.
  • Insures cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit.
  • Cleans and stores equipment.
  • Empties trash, linen bags and sharps containers.
  • Stocks medical supplies, linens and paper goods.
  • Inventories equipment as required.
  • Processes broken equipment as directed.
  • Maintains equipment logs as required.
  • Delivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology.
  • Transports x-rays, blood and equipment.
  • Delivers patient food trays and nourishment.
  • Performs basic clerical duties such as answering phones, taking messages, filing and copying.
  • Stamps and assembles patient charts.
  • Posts laboratory and other tests results.
  • Uses the computerized Patient Care Information System (PACIS) at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in this description.
  • Assists with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing and walking patients.
  • Administers oxygen under the direction of a licensed nurse.
  • Performs other functions as required.
