About The Position
Performs basic patient care activities under the direction of a licensed nurse. Requirements
- High school or equivalent plus formal specialized, short-term training in basic patient care (CNA, Med. Asst., Military medical training, EMT-B, NA, HHA, Nursing student who has completed a skills lab) or at least 6 months experience in direct patient care required.
- Receives on-the-job training and successfully completes competency verification to perform primary functions within 6 weeks of date of hire.
Responsibilities
- Transports patients and documents action on patient record.
- Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in patient record.
- Collects and records vital signs in patient record.
- Insures cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit.
- Cleans and stores equipment.
- Empties trash, linen bags and sharps containers.
- Stocks medical supplies, linens and paper goods.
- Inventories equipment as required.
- Processes broken equipment as directed.
- Maintains equipment logs as required.
- Delivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology.
- Transports x-rays, blood and equipment.
- Delivers patient food trays and nourishment.
- Performs basic clerical duties such as answering phones, taking messages, filing and copying.
- Stamps and assembles patient charts.
- Posts laboratory and other tests results.
- Uses the computerized Patient Care Information System (PACIS) at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in this description.
- Assists with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing and walking patients.
- Administers oxygen under the direction of a licensed nurse.
- Performs other functions as required.
