Nursing Supervisor works as part of the clinic provider team and assists the Providers in the provision of primary health care. The Nursing Supervisor supervises the nursing staff, lab personnel & X-ray Tech and provides limited direct patient services as well as performing specifically designated independent procedures. Ensures follow-up and action are appropriately taken and documented when important issues are identified; ensures facility preparedness for State and other regulatory agency inspections and survey. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists physicians and mid-levels in healthcare activities, performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures, and the administration of medications as necessary; Responsible for nursing activities in full supervisory capacity including the development and implementation of all training, disciplinary and personnel evaluations; Facilitates staff education and inservices in the areas of safety, infection control, OSHA, TB control and performance improvement. Conducts and reviews annual CPR verifications; Participates in long range planning for the medical center, independently plans and manages the nursing program and regularly reviews nursing activities, problems and functions with the Chief Medical Officer; Participates in the health center’s quality assessment/improvement activities and performs duties in accordance with applicable standards; Ensures an appropriate environment for the administration of healthcare by keeping exam rooms, nurse’s station, all equipment, and other work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion; Plan and set work standards which leads to quality of care, to counsel and discipline staff per policy as needed, and to deal with sensitive or volatile situations involving staff, contracted employees, patient/families, physicians, or others; Tracks, analyzes, quantifies, and compares data relative to safety, infection, and quality. Oversees the surveillance for infections of staff, patients and caregivers; Maintains policies and procedures in compliance with state, federal, Medicare and credentialing standards and criteria; Performs appropriate credentialing activities for all permanent and temporary nursing employees as well as assurance of proper current licensure and continuing education. Initiates and participates in staff in-house, in-service education; Performs other necessary duties as required by the Chief Medical Officer to meet the goal of providing primary health care services. Carries out proper procedures for basic life support, fire, disaster and infection control; Adheres to the delegated criteria of Laboratory, X-ray and Medical Acts policy and procedures; Participates in performance and training of OSHA Infection Control and Safety and adheres to the policies and procedures; Performs other necessary duties as required by the Nursing Supervisor to meet the goals of providing primary health care services.
