About The Position

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist is an APN responsible for developing and providing evidenced based educational programs. Responsibilities include development and teaching orientation programs, providing in-service educational programs and continuing education programs. Supports nursing staff interested in conducting clinical research and participation in professional development activities. As we are migrating to EMR, interest/aptitude in informatics is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing required
  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • 5 years of progressively responsible psychiatric nursing experience required
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, ability to utilize the nursing process and work collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree Nursing preferred or Doctorate Clinical Psychiatry preferred
  • Previous experience as educator preferred
  • Previous experience working with nursing informatics or information systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing evidenced based practices and research, participates in the orientation program for new Nursing Staff employees.
  • Utilizing evidenced based practices and research, participates in the planning, provision, and evaluation of in-service educational programs.
  • Utilizing evidenced based practices and research participates in the planning, provision, and evaluation of unit-based educational activities for nursing staff which enhance role expectations and professional growth.
  • Oversees the continuing education provider approval program.
  • Responsible for nursing student placements.
  • Contributes to development and implementation of nursing department manuals with responsibility specifically for the procedure book.
  • Contributes to effective interpersonal and community relations to ensure the quality of patient care and to promote a positive image of McLean Hospital.
  • Maintains commitment to professional growth and competency through ongoing activities that promote professional role development.
