About The Position

The Nursing Informatics Coordinator coordinates nursing informatics activities for the health system, in conjunction with the Chief Nursing Information Officer, to improve interdisciplinary clinical practice, clinical workflow, clinical decision making, quality and research initiatives. Provides guidance, consultation, coordination of clinical informatics processes with hospital nursing informatics and Clinical Information Systems. Assists in determination of process work flow training and redesign to integrate these processes within system-wide clinical information technology strategies. Coordinates and collaborates with Information Services and all clinical leaders in order to ensure effective integration of systems with organizational strategies, applications and processes. Accountable leader for nursing technology integration and adoption strategy and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Nursing Informatics Coordinates the research, selection and planned implementation process for all new nursing applications.
  • Communicates FMOLHS Information Services clinical initiatives to all appropriate levels of the organization.
  • Defines information technology needs for nursing and clinical care disciplines as they relate to the strategic plan for the health system.
  • Identifies information system applications that support or enhance nursing and other clinical disciplines.
  • Focuses on nursing workflow to ensure Information Services is meeting all regulatory and quality standards.
  • Researches, identifies, and implements best practices to promote adoption of higher nursing standards and improve the delivery of care.
  • Works with FMOLHS IS teams and FMOLHS Quality to create pre and post implementation adoption scorecards that will help measure success of all initiatives.
  • Consultation Meets with all nursing informatics professionals, nurse managers, and other members assigned to clinical information initiatives, from each hospital in the system, to ensure appropriate design, build, training, workflow, implementation and adoption of clinical information systems in accordance with the approved Guiding Principles.
  • Visits each hospital as needed to ensure a thorough understanding of the unique nursing environment at each campus to create appropriate workflows, design and build, and proactive issue identification and resolution.
  • Guides design and build decisions through use of prior knowledge and experience, while maintaining a system view.
  • Decisions will be made by the local organizations and teams, and Director of Nursing Informatics will act in a consulting and subject matter expert role in the decision making process.
  • Focuses on workflow to ensure that best practices are adopted and meet all regulatory and quality standards.
  • Works in consultation and collaboration with the FMOLHS IS Teams to ensure that all workflow, design, build and testing are completed effectively.
  • Support and Partnership Assists in review of device strategy, as needed, within each organization to ensure that all nursing workflow is considered in design and implementation of new hardware.
  • Assists in thorough testing of all design decisions to ensure that workflow, process, and design are working as intended.
  • Supports facility go-lives as needed to ensure success of the program.
  • Serves as Multi-Facility Nursing Informatics monthly meeting sponsor.
  • Attends FMOLHS Informatics meetings as scheduled to represent Nursing perspective.
  • Works effectively and builds relationships with nursing, physicians and other clinical representatives at FMOLHS organizations to achieve system-wide goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinates effective communication of decisions to all levels of the organization within the Health System.
  • Functions as an effective liaison between the Chief Nursing Information Officer, Director of CIS, and Nursing Executives at each organization.
  • Provides input to managers on performance of personnel assigned for special projects in a manner consistent with the ideals of the organization.
  • Training Works with FMOLHS IS teams and local organizations to assist in creation of appropriate nursing training plans, processes, and timelines to ensure an effective implementation of clinical information system projects and initiatives, utilizing adult learning principles.
  • Assists, as needed, with Super User Training and/or Train the Trainer sessions to ensure appropriate training and education.
  • Other activities as assigned Manages project and investigative budgets.
  • Engages in ongoing self development to increase administrative skill set.
