About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic Nursing Director for the Lunder 7 neurology and neurosurgery unit. This role is a crucial leadership position within the hospital organization and encompasses oversight and management for safe, high quality patient focused care; personnel management and development; clinical operations; and the development of highly effective partnerships throughout the Department of Nursing and across all organizational departments. The patient population is adult neurology and neurosurgery. Staff deliver care for head and spinal trauma patients and patients with strokes. Nurses become experienced in providing care of the patient who requires acute neurological assessment, post tPA assessment and monitoring, external cerebral spinal fluid drainage, trach management, chest tubes, and palliative care. The clinical nursing staff on Lunder 7 supports the vision and practice under the guiding principles of the Department of Patient Care Services. The staff is committed to delivering highly skilled, high quality family centered care to the patients and their families. The ideal candidate has 5-7 years of nursing leadership experience in a complex medical environment. Reporting to an Associate Chief Nurse, the Nurse Director provides leadership in an environment that celebrates and empowers nurses. In collaboration with a Clinical Nurse Specialist, hire, develop and provide direction to patient care providers and unlicensed clinical support staff. Partner with nurses, physicians, administrative colleagues and other teams to guide and direct clinical practice, systems improvement, network development, and operations. Collaborate and plan for interdepartmental resources with other department managers to ensure the best level of services to direct care providers, and ultimately patients. Promote professionalism and autonomy by engaging staff in planning, decision-making and the many educational resources available for further development. Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing required and Master's Degree Related Field of Study required
  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - American Heart Association (AHA) preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred
  • Nursing management 3-5 years required
  • Proficient organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient commitment to clinical excellence.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Agency Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and supervise staff based on mutually agreed-upon goals in job descriptions.
  • Implements strategies to enhance retention and reduce turnover.
  • Promotes a safe and positive working environment.
  • Ensure that the RN supervisors/clinical care managers are aware of any updated policies and procedures.
  • Prepares departmental budget and operates department within budgetary guidelines.
  • Assign patients for day-to-day management to nursing coordinators and/or Nursing Supervisors/Managers.
