We are seeking a dynamic Nursing Director for the Blake 8 Cardiac Surgical ICU. This role is a crucial leadership position within the hospital organization and encompasses oversight and management for safe, high quality patient focused care; personnel management and development; clinical operations; and the development of highly effective partnerships throughout the Department of Nursing and across all organizational departments. The Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit (Blake 8) is a fast paced, highly acute, 18-bed adult critical care unit that serves patients with a vast array of cardiovascular disease in all phases of their disease. As a Heart Vascular Institute critical care unit, we are grounded in high quality care that is accessible, innovative, research based and delivered via an interdisciplinary team. We are a highly specialized unit that is committed to excellent practice and positive patient experience. This unit was the inaugural unit for the MGB High Reliability Organization unit-based rounds, providing a voice to the clinical team to inform care, effect change and improve patient outcomes and experience. Nursing leadership includes a Nursing Director and a Nurse Practice Specialist, and our team is comprised of Critical Care Physician Intensivists, Advanced Practice Providers, nurses, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and spiritual care. Together we strive to provide the highest quality, compassionate care to all patients and families. The MGB Heart Vascular Institute is excited to transition to the new Ragon building in September 2027. This will provide us an opportunity to expand our ability to provide access to care. The growth of this unit is expected to expand to 32 critical care beds. The Nursing Director will be responsible for interviewing and hiring new staff, partnering with the Nurse Practice Specialist in the orientation of existing staff to the new environment and leading a 32-bed critical care unit. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrated nursing leadership experience in a complex medical environment with a preference for cardiac nursing experience. Reporting to an Associate Chief Nurse, the Nurse Director provides leadership in an environment that celebrates and empowers nurses. In collaboration with a Nurse Practice Specialist, hire, develop and provide directions to patient care providers and unlicensed clinical support staff. Partners with nurses, physicians, administrative colleagues and other teams to guide and direct clinical practice, systems improvement, network development, and operations. Collaborate and plan for interdepartmental resources with other department managers to ensure the best level of services to direct care providers, and ultimately patients. Promote professionalism and autonomy by engaging staff in planning, decision-making and the many educational resources available for further development. The patient care delivery model is patient and family centered; care is exceptional, comprehensive, accessible, supportive and personalized!
