About The Position

St. Catherine of Siena Hospital is the largest in-patient psychiatric facility in Suffolk County, St. Catherine's Department of Psychiatry provides holistic, patient-centered care and advocacy services for adults aged 18 and older with a primary diagnosis of mental illness. Conditions treated include schizophrenia, and bipolar and depressive disorder conditions. Our nurses, physicians and support staff are devoted to providing advanced health care in an environment of compassion to our patients, their families and our community.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Business, Health, or allied field required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse, New York State
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements, electronic medical record, and budgeting
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in health care management field.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and directs patient care services in accordance with the philosophy & objectives of the Behavioral Health Department.
  • Analyzes and evaluates delivery of patient care, quality, and effectiveness of nursing care.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer in planning and implementing new methods of delivering nursing care.
  • Responsible for the overall staffing of assigned units, reviewing and approving monthly time sheets and maximum utilization of available staff with the authority to relocate staff as required.
  • Monitors and controls all financial resources and budget of the division
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Manager in preparing/reviewing all formal performance evaluations of staff in the division.
  • Encourages responsibility, accountability, and personal achievements of each staff member.
  • Meets at regular intervals with staff members on performance and establishing new goals and directives if required.
  • Assesses the needs of the patient care staff and arranges for learning and growth opportunities.
  • Interviews, evaluates, hires, counsels, disciplines, and terminates staff members in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Acts as mediator when staff members are unable to resolve a conflict.
  • Works closely with all staff members in providing services which enhance patient satisfaction, including creating and maintaining an atmosphere of courtesy and respect toward patients, families, and staff.
  • Performs all related duties as required and unrelated duties as requested during emergencies.
