About The Position

The Nursing Data Analyst, reporting to the Manager of Clinical and Operational Transformation, supports the Nursing Resource Center by analyzing, evaluating, managing, and reporting operational, clinical, quality, safety, financial, and patient experience data. This role provides statistical and analytic support for evidence‑based initiatives across Brown University Health and contributes to performance improvement efforts that enhance clinical excellence, service quality, nursing analytics, and patient safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Nursing, Mathematics, Economics, Public Health, or a related healthcare or analytic field required.
  • Two to five years of experience in a healthcare analytics role or related environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in SQL programming and querying large datasets.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, graphing, formulas, and data validation.
  • Experience creating effective data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Experience working with electronic health records, including report building and data extraction.
  • Familiarity with time‑keeping and workforce management systems.
  • Strong analytical thinking, systems‑thinking, project management, and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, statistical software, and data visualization platforms.
  • Experience training and supporting users in analytic tools, reporting systems, or data processes.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in or leads targeted Nursing Data initiatives under the direction of the Manager of Clinical and Operational Transformation.
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot reports from multiple data sources including EHRs, quality databases, and operational systems.
  • Query large datasets using SQL or similar programming tools to extract, validate, and manage clinical and operational data.
  • Design, implement, and maintain databases to support nursing and organizational analytic needs.
  • Develop advanced data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms to support decision‑making.
  • Create and refine Excel spreadsheets tailored to diverse end users.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in data collection and reporting through automation; collaborate with technical teams on enhancements.
  • Communicate required changes and enhancements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure accuracy, validity, and timeliness of all data deliverables.
  • Conduct complex analyses of operational and clinical data to identify trends, patterns, variation, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership, frontline staff, and partner organizations to ensure accurate, reliable, and timely data.
  • Manage clinical and operational reporting requirements, including submissions to NDNQI and other entities.
  • Design and implement process improvements related to data workflows, standardization, and waste reduction.
  • Serve as a resource for quality metrics, performance measurement methodologies, and data interpretation across Brown University Health.
  • Proactively evaluate datasets for statistical accuracy, validity, and potential threats to data integrity.
