About The Position

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 32 hours every two weeks on the Night shift, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend. M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital provides high-acuity care to critically ill patients from across the Southwest Twin Cities metro area. This fast-paced, dynamic environment offers exposure to advanced technologies, complex medical conditions, and multidisciplinary teamwork. Nursing Assistants and Nursing Station Technicians play a vital role in supporting both direct patient care and essential unit operations. Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care
  • Transporting patient and/or equipment
  • Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
  • Reordering and stocking of supplies
  • Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include: Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding, Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, Oral hygiene, Specimen collection/testing, Position/ambulating, Changing linens, Promptly answers call lights.
  • Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition.
  • Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
  • Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.
  • Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.
  • Orients patient and their family to the environment.
  • Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies.
  • Assures patients get to appointments on time.
  • Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.
  • Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment.
  • Orders and stocks supplies.
  • Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form.
  • Performs other tasks as needed.
