About The Position

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This position is 56 hours every two weeks on the Night shift, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend. M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area, with more than 40 specialty services, combining talents to balance innovative technologies and treatments with the art of medicine. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital provides high-acuity care to critically ill patients from across the Southwest Twin Cities metro area. This fast-paced, dynamic environment offers exposure to advanced technologies, complex medical conditions, and multidisciplinary teamwork. Nursing Assistants and Nursing Station Technicians play a vital role in supporting both direct patient care and essential unit operations. The role values precision, compassion, and collaboration, offering an opportunity to grow clinical and clerical skills.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program OR
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician) OR
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program OR
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care
  • Transporting patient and/or equipment
  • Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
  • Reordering and stocking of supplies
  • Providing basic patient care including personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding
  • Addressing skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams
  • Performing oral hygiene
  • Performing specimen collection/testing
  • Assisting with patient positioning/ambulating
  • Changing linens
  • Promptly answering call lights
  • Assisting the nurse in monitoring patient condition
  • Accurately taking and recording weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation
  • Placing patient on/off monitors or equipment
  • Reporting unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner
  • Assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients
  • Orienting patient and their family to the environment
  • Assuring the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge
  • Transporting patients, equipment, specimen and supplies
  • Assuring patients get to appointments on time
  • Using transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation
  • Cleaning, setting up, and maintaining rooms and equipment
  • Ordering and stocking supplies
  • Accurately documenting tasks performed on appropriate form
  • Performing other tasks as needed
