About The Position

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This position is 56 hours per two weeks on the Evening shift, for 8 hour shifts, every third weekend. Fairview Southdale Hospital offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. With more than 40 specialty services, they combine talents to balance innovative technologies and treatments with the art of medicine, respectfully addressing the comprehensive needs of patients and their families. The Southdale Heart Center is a lively and challenging 29 bed cardiac telemetry unit that cares for patients with a variety of diagnoses. This is a fast-paced unit with a complex patient population and many learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care
  • Transporting patient and/or equipment
  • Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
  • Reordering and stocking of supplies
  • Providing basic patient care by performing routine duties to include: Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding, Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, Oral hygiene, Specimen collection/testing, Position/ambulating, Changing linens, Promptly answering call lights.
  • Assisting the nurse in monitoring patient condition.
  • Accurately taking and recording weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
  • Placing patient on/off monitors or equipment.
  • Reporting unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.
  • Orienting patient and their family to the environment.
  • Assuring the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Transporting patients, equipment, specimen and supplies.
  • Assuring patients get to appointments on time.
  • Using transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.
  • Cleaning, setting up, and maintaining rooms and equipment.
  • Ordering and stocking supplies.
  • Accurately documenting tasks performed on appropriate form.
  • Performing other tasks as needed.
