About The Position

Summary Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with hospital and department policies and procedures, the Nursing Assistant assists in providing patient-centered care to patients and families from admission through discharge. Definition A Nursing Assistant is a paraprofessional trained to provide personal care and related health care services to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm. The Nursing Assistant provides care in healthcare facilities or agencies licensed by the State of Rhode Island and holds a current Nursing Assistant license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Requirements

  • Current Rhode Island Nursing Assistant license required
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification required
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care across the lifespan, with consideration for aging processes, developmental stages, and cultural diversity

Nice To Haves

  • One year of Nursing Assistant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care Provides personal care and assistance with activities of daily living
  • Performs basic Nursing Assistant skills as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health
  • Assists with rehabilitation activities, including patient ambulation as appropriate
  • Observation and Communication Recognizes and reports patient signs, symptoms, and changes in condition to the Registered Nurse
  • Communicates relevant patient information accurately and timely
  • Safety and Environment Maintains a safe patient care environment
  • Reports unsafe conditions or equipment requiring repair to appropriate personnel and removes faulty equipment from service
  • Adheres to quality assurance and infection control standards in accordance with hospital and departmental policies
  • May function as a patient observer as assigned
  • Documentation and Support Accurately documents patient care activities in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other clinical documentation systems
  • Demonstrates the ability to respond appropriately in emergency or code situations
  • Performs other related duties as required.
