The Nursing Assistant II performs selected diagnostic tests and prescribed treatments, provides patients with assistance in performing activities of daily living, and assists the healthcare team in ensuring patient safety. Key duties include assisting with oral and personal hygiene, preparing patients for meals, measuring and recording vital signs, collecting specimens, and reporting patient condition changes to the registered professional nurse. The role also involves applying simple dressings, discontinuing IV therapies, performing EKGs, obtaining accucheck results, assisting with Foley catheter insertion and removal, cleansing pressure injuries, and applying buck traction. A significant part of the role is participating in patient safety by responding to call bells, recognizing and reporting unsafe conditions, appropriately using safety equipment like side rails and restraints, transporting patients, and responding to emergencies. The Nursing Assistant II is expected to function effectively within the organizational structure, accept assignments, seek clarification, report patient care observations to the RN, and maintain competence through in-service education programs.
