About The Position

The mission of this role is to create a welcoming, safe, and faith-centered Sunday morning nursery where children and families experience the love of Christ, while also serving as the nursery supervisor for evening and weekend events. Through consistent leadership, the position ensures the nursery is well-staffed, prepared, and developmentally appropriate, allowing parents to fully engage in worship or events. The role collaborates closely with the Children’s Ministry team to align nursery programming with the broader mission and vision of the church.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent years of experience required
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required.
  • Three to five years related experience in childcare required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google-Based programs.
  • Ability to work varying schedules, including evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays
  • Knowledge of child development skills and health/safety standards.
  • Knowledge of theology.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting skills.
  • Knowledge of state licensing requirements for caregivers.
  • Ability to self-motivate and manage time effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Diplomacy in relationships and confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully build relationships and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Compassion and desire to work with children.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with families about our staff, practices, and policies through various means, including person-to-person, phone, email, meetings, brochures, etc.
  • Communicate with various ministries and community groups to set up childcare needs for programs and events
  • Reach out to families to offer prayers, support, guidance, and understanding for the demands of parenting
  • Use faith development and early childhood education knowledge in various communication tools
  • Accept evening and weekend childcare reservations through online registration, email, and phone, and communicate with registered families regarding arrival location and procedures for evening/weekend care
  • Maintain an effective scheduling system to ensure appropriate staffing for the number of children for Sunday Nursery
  • Schedule the appropriate number of caregivers to meet the required needs based on childcare reservations for evening/weekend care
  • Brainstorm and share scheduling and payroll practices with Nursery Assistant
  • Respond to caregivers’ questions and needs on Sunday morning and during events
  • Partners with the Assistant Director of Children’s Ministry to oversee Sunday childcare and Evening childcare
  • Maintain age-appropriate manipulatives and resources to best support each classroom
  • Evaluate and assess room set up on a regular basis
  • Be on-call for evening childcare supervision and staffing
  • Develop and maintain relationships with area colleges, universities, and other similar organizations to recruit the best possible candidates
  • Hold regular trainings for all nursery staff that focus on the social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive, and physical needs of each child, including CPR and First Aid
  • Model and discuss appropriate communication and best practices with children and peers on an ongoing basis
  • Provide and review staff handbook on a regular basis
  • Conduct annual performance reviews of all employees and throughout the year, as needed
  • Complete all required HR and Payroll paperwork on new and current employees, as needed
  • Serve on the Children’s Ministries team to plan, develop, and execute programs and events
  • Work as a team member within Children’s Ministries and the entire church to ensure the nursery aligns with the church vision and mission
  • Assist with Newborn & Baptism duties, engagement with the families, teach Baptism classes
  • Participate in short-term and long-term goal planning with various groups
  • Meet with the Children’s team on a regular basis to execute Sunday morning programs and special events
  • Discuss possible childcare needs for upcoming church events
  • Prepare and complete administrative duties
  • Develop and lead programming for expecting parents that introduces and integrates them into life at St. Luke’s with a young child.
  • Assist or substitute as childcare worker, when needed
  • Support other staff members and ministry areas
  • Other duties as assigned
