Requirements

  • Applicants should have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possibly taking blood glucose measurements, recording intake and output, and vital signs or helping with PO fluids.
  • Assists patients with getting dressed, going to the restroom, and getting to their vehicle.
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean and orderly.
  • Assists with cleaning stretchers, changing linens, stocking patient care areas, stocking supplies, learning sterile technique and assisting the OR nurse and surgical tech with getting rooms ready, turning over after procedures, opening supplies in sterile fashion.
  • Performs continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
  • Reads telemetry test strips and places them in the patient charts at required intervals.
  • Identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress and intervenes appropriately.
  • Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
  • Reports abnormal assessment and telemetry findings or changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Tests equipment for proper working order. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.
  • Greets patients and visitors. Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls. Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested.
  • Enters nursing requests and orders subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary.
  • Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.
  • Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.
  • Assists RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.
