About The Position

Reports to the Magnet Program Director and serves as the Research Nurse Scientist for MUSC Health. Plans, implements, and evaluates nursing research and evidence-based practice activities, to promote the delivery of quality patient care and improved patient outcomes. The role facilitates nursing strategic research priorities. Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing and other allied health provider research and evidence based practice (EBP) activities, to promote the delivery of quality patient care and improved patient outcomes. The Clinical Nurse Scientist is dedicated to clinical inquiry and the advancement of evidence-based practice and nursing research in the clinical environment. The role reports to the Professional Excellence and Magnet Program and is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of innovative nursing clinical inquiry using scientific models, methods and concepts that support and promote the conduct of clinical nursing research and research utilization. This role serves as a mentor to nursing staff in conducting, disseminating, integrating, and applying research to improve professional nursing practice and patient care that align with the nursing and organization strategic plans.

Requirements

  • Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing, Doctorate in Nursing Science (DNS) or Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP)
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience required.
  • Current South Carolina licensure as a registered nurse or compact state required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of enforcement activities for the MUSC Hospital Compliance Program preferred.
  • Knowledge of ADA regulations essential.
  • Knowledge of Magnet Accreditation and standards.
  • Certification in general nursing practice or clinical specialty preferred.
